Elena is a smart contract security researcher who has audited over 40 DeFi protocols across six blockchain ecosystems. Before joining MoveCrypto, she led the security engineering team at a top-tier blockchain security firm where she specialized in cross-chain bridge vulnerabilities. She holds a PhD in Cryptography from ETH Zurich and is a regular speaker at ETHGlobal, Devconnect, and Security BSides events.

Elena didn't plan to become one of the most respected voices in bridge security. She started her career in academic cryptography, publishing papers on zero-knowledge proof systems from her lab at ETH Zurich. But after the 2022 Wormhole exploit — a $326 million wake-up call for the entire industry — she pivoted hard into applied security. "It wasn't enough to prove things on paper," she says. "People were losing real money."

Since then, Elena has led security reviews for over 40 DeFi protocols, including three of the top ten cross-chain bridges by volume. She is credited with identifying and responsibly disclosing a critical re-entrancy vulnerability in a major bridge's validator logic in 2024 — a bug that, left unpatched, could have exposed over $180 million in locked liquidity. The disclosure earned her a formal recognition from the protocol's foundation and cemented her reputation as the person you call when a bridge needs to be battle-tested.

At MoveCrypto, Elena leads the security program from first principles. She designed the multi-phase audit framework that every protocol upgrade must pass before touching production: formal specification in TLA+, an internal red-team exercise, and a rotating roster of external auditors who are intentionally given only partial context to simulate a real adversary. She also runs MoveCrypto's bug bounty program, which has paid out over $120,000 to independent researchers since launch.

Outside of MoveCrypto, Elena contributes to several open-source security tools including Slither detectors for cross-chain-specific vulnerability patterns and a fuzzing harness for bridge relayers. She mentors two junior auditors each quarter through the Secureum fellowship and has a standing rule: never review code on a Friday. "That's how you miss things."
